WHO WE ARE
Scott A. Gainar
Music has been a large part of Scott's life since the age of 5, when he first laid his fingers on the piano. After a brief stint on the violin, Scott settled on guitar as his main instrument. In high school, Scott began studying with local guitar virtuoso Tony Janflone Jr. This is when he truly started honing his talent and began to emerge as one of Pittsburgh's hottest young guitar players.
Scott went on to the University of Pittsburgh where he studied music theory, composition and orchestration… and to satisfy his love for technology, electrical engineering. It was at school that he immersed himself in the classical repertoire and began studying and composing orchestral music. His musical interests also expanded to include Rock, Jazz, New Age and Electronica. Scott continued his guitar studies with jazz greats Joe Negri and John Maione. He also privately studied piano, voice and classical guitar.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Scott went on to study composition and film scoring at New York University’s film scoring workshop. Here he had an opportunity to work with composers Mark Snow (X-files, Millennium, Smallville) and Ira Newborn (16 candles, Naked Gun, Ace Ventura) in addition to NYU’s fantastic faculty.
In 2003 and 2006 Scott’s music earned him semi-finalist status in Turner Classic Movie’s (TCM) international Young Film Composer’s Competition - these were the only two times he entered the competition.
After school, Scott founded Gainar Creative Music, offering original music composition and professional studio services. In addition to Gainar Creative Music, he is continuing his musical education by studying Lyle Murphy’s EIS (Equal Interval System) composition system with Glenn Jordan.
Scott’s love of games and the technical challenges associated with creating high quality, original, interactive game audio brought him to the IGDA where he currently sits on the board of directors for the Pittsburgh chapter. He is also an active member of the Game Audio Network Guild (GANG) and International Alliance of Composers (IAC).
Scott lives with his family in Pittsburgh, PA.
